With gauges 9-42, Super Slinky strings very easy to fret and bend. They’re extremely popular with guitarists who love to solo, including Jeff Back. Plus, 9’s are the most popular string gauge among new players. Super Slinky strings are sometimes identified by their model number, 2223. These Ernie Ball nickel wound strings have a Custom Gauge arrangement of .009, .011, .016, .024w, .032, and .042. While they’re officially referred to as Nickel Wound, it’s actually a nickel-plated steel wrap around a tin-plated hex steel core. They first hit the scene in the 1970s, and their bright pink string packaging hasn’t changed much since.
