Plus, 9’s are the most popular string gauge among new players. Super Slinky strings are sometimes identified by their model number, 2223. These Ernie Ball nickel wound strings have a Custom Gauge arrangement of .009, .011, .016, .024w, .032, and .042. While they’re officially referred to as Nickel Wound, it’s actually a nickel-plated steel wrap around a tin-plated hex steel core.
